Virtually impossible to tell what you’re looking at……Texas puts ‘virtual border watch’ online….

I can hear the laughter all the way from Mexico……..

SAN ANTONIO – Texas has started broadcasting live images of the U.S. border on the Internet in a security program that asks the public to report signs of illegal immigration or drug crimes.

A test Web site went live Thursday at with views from eight cameras and ways for viewers to e-mail reports of suspicious activity. Previously, the images had only been available to law enforcement and landowners where the cameras are located.

The network of surveillance cameras was plagued by technical problems,

The view from one camera on the Rio Grande was largely obscured by a bush. In another, all that was visible was the license plates on passing cars.

The images were grainy and it was difficult to tell whether a group of people on the screen was a family crossing a crowded parking lot or a band of smugglers with their human cargo.

(some) cameras were placed so high that it was hard to distinguish a person from, a bush.

Authorities have been trying to work out technical issues, such as the proper distance and how to achieve good picture quality.

What a waste of taxpayer money. Properly executed it might have some value but this looks like it thrown together some high school students. On second thought, high school students would have done a better job.

To stop the illegal guest worker press Ctrl+S. To handcuff him press Ctrl+H+C. To load him in the truck press Shift+Alt+L. To give him a drink of water press Shift+H+2+O. To send him back Press Shift+$+$+$+$+$+$+$. Get the idea?

You could harness more eyes by putting the video feeds on cable TV and offering a free bag of Cheetos to people who make useful reports. The observational power of millions of couch vegetables could help reduce the occurrence of crimes like poaching and public urination.
AND OF COURSE……………………..

Civil rights groups have criticized the “virtual border watch,” saying it will instill fear in border communities and could lead to fraudulent crime reports and racial profiling……

It’s another step toward having a police state,” said Jaime Martinez, national treasurer of the League of United Latin American Councils…..

Rogelio Nuñez, director of Proyecto Libertad, an immigrant rights organization based in the border town of Harlingen, said the state cameras are a terrible idea. “It’s just a total misuse of money,” he said.

We’ll see………….Personally stik sez What a CROC…..
