Who Funds The ACLU?

Cross Posted from Stop the ACLU

I just recieved an email asking me what organizations fund the ACLU. I thought I should put the information I do know out here. If anyone has additional info on groups that fund the ACLU let me know and I will add them. Besides the membership donations and attorney fee awards the ACLU recieves funding from numerous far left organizations. The ACLU keeps its donor list pretty well guarded, but Discover the Networks has put together a pretty good list.

The ACLU has received funding from the Open Society Institute, the Arca Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Columbia Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. Macarthur Foundation, the Mertz Gilmore Foundation, the Minneapolis Foundation, the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Scherman Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Columbia Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the JEHT Foundation, the Joyce Foundation, the Lear Family Foundation, the Public Welfare Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Woods Fund of Chicago.

I’m not sure about the other state branches but The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio said it will no longer accept funding from the United Way so as not to complete a required counterterrorism compliance form.

Last year The Center for Reclaiming Americ for Christ found a shocking discovery.

The Center for Reclaiming America for Christ has uncovered documents revealing that the Florida Supreme Court is responsible for helping to fund the ACLU of Florida – using interest from legal trust funds generated by unsuspecting home buyers, heirs, and legal awards and settlements. Between 1990 and 1997, the Florida Bar Foundation (FBF), a creation of the Florida Supreme Court, provided more than $600,000 to help pay the salary of the ACLU of Florida’s legal director.

That is all I’ve got on this. If you have more to add to the list let me know. The ACLU get plenty of money from all kinds of sources. A good chunk of it comes from your pocket whenever they win a case. You can help put a stop to that.

I recently received a credit card application from Working Assets. They support, “groups like Children’s Defense Fund, Rainforest Action Network and the ACLU.” They advertise that with every purchase with this card, they will donate 10 cents to “non-profit groups working for peace, human rights, economic justice, education and the environment.

When I called the number they list on the mailing, it turned out to be Bank of America.

I have a BOA credit card and am now looking for a new credit card company.
