From The Drudge Report

WASHINGTON TIMES ON TUESDAY WILL CALL FOR SPEAKER HASTERT’S RESIGNATION, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE… DEVELOPING… Editorial titled: ‘Resign, Mr. Speaker’: ‘House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once… Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance’… — Washington Times, October 3, 2006…

I really have not been following this story very closely since I was out of town when the story broke. From what I have read on the story my only conclusion is that Foley is nothing less than a Pedophile, and there is no excuse for his behavior Alchohol Abuse or not. I also have no idea what Hastert knew or when he knew it. If Hastert did know about Foley’s actions and he attempted to bury the story then I would agree with the times… The question is What did Hastert know?

Now I don’t want to sound too much like a lib here but you certainly have to question the timing of how and when it was made public. CREW the liberal watchdog group has known for several months of the E-mails and IM’s. Why go public at this particular time? Why not when they first found out about it? Did CREW delay going public in order to deliver as much political damage to Republicans as possible? If so, they are as guilty of being as despicable as they are accusing Hastert of being.

Another thing about this that just doesn’t seem to sit right about this is how were the E-mails and IM’s obtained? I certainly wouldn’t think that those communications would be something that would be saved by either party, and certainly not for a period of over a year without an investigation being conducted.

The only thing for certain in all of this is that there is much that is not known and to call for anyone’s resignation without fully understanding the facts is nothing more than playing politics with an investigation that should be criminal not political.

I believe Kirk Fordham’s statement that he notified Speaker Dennis Hastert even if Mr. Hastert doesn’t recall it. I am tired of people saying ‘they take responsibility …’ and then calling for an investigation. He should have taken that three years ago. It is a sad situation when so many people talk about taking responsibility when the responsible act would be to resign because he didn’t do what he should have done. This isn’t about politics — not about being a democrat or republician, it’s about doing the right thing.
