GAZA (Reuters) – Palestinian gunmen kidnapped two foreign journalists working for the Fox News television channel in Gaza on Monday, a witness said.

The witness, a Palestinian who worked with the two journalists, said one of them, a producer, was an American, and the other, whose nationality he did not know, was a cameraman.

The Fox News bureau in Jerusalem said it was checking the report.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the abduction.

I have not heard Fox News report on this as of yet, which is a bit suprising, but here is what Michelle Malkin has on it.

Palestinian gunmen ambushed a car carrying a Fox News crew in Gaza City on Monday and kidnapped two of the journalists inside, according to witnesses and Fox. “We can confirm that two of our people were taken against their will in Gaza,” Fox News said in a statement.

A Fox employee in Gaza, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to release information about the incident, said the two kidnapped people were reporter Steve Centanni, a U.S. citizen, and a cameraman from New Zealand.

The men, along with a bodyguard, were parked near the headquarters of the Palestinian security services when two trucks filled with gunmen pulled up and boxed them in, according to the employee. The gunmen took the two out of their sports utility vehicle, which was marked “TV,” and drove away, he said.

Major militant groups in Gaza denied having any connection to the abduction, and there was no immediate word of any demands made.

This puts a new wrinkle in the whole Israel vs Hamas/Hizbollah/Islamic Jihad Conflict… but Hey it is a whole new day for Peace in the Mid East…. Note the sarcastic tone of my typing.

Palestinian security forces hunted for two abducted Fox News journalists Tuesday, and the Palestinian president and prime minister intervened in an attempt to gain their release. President Mahmoud Abbas and Ismail Haniyeh, the prime minister of the Hamas-led government, scheduled meetings with the news organization’s Jerusalem bureau chief, Eli Fastman, and its chief correspondent in Israel, Jennifer Griffin. The prime minister assured the Fox News representatives that Palestinian security forces would use all their power to “put an end to it soon,” said government spokesman Ghazi Hamad said, without elaborating.

Investigators said the president’s office was closely following the probe into the abduction.

American reporter Steve Centanni, 60, and New Zealand cameraman Olaf Wiig, 36, were seized by masked gunmen Monday near the headquarters of the Palestinian security services.

I saw the report this morning once on the Today show. They told Steve Centanni and his camera man were abducted at gunpoint, but Fox hasn’t said anything all day and NBC evening news did not mention anything tonight.

  2. Fox has almost no coverage on it at all, I think it is because they are trying to secure the release of the hostages. I did hear on O’Riely last night when the CAIR spokesman brought the subject up O’RIely essentially cut him off.
