Olmert: No limitations on IDF in fight against rockets

“We cannot have a million residents living in shelters. On this matter, there will be no limitations on the army. This war has involved fatalities, which hurts and is traumatic. Arab states to push Lebanese changes to UN cease-fire draft

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa and the foreign ministers of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates would leave shortly for New York.

Fierce fighting continues in south Lebanon

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was killed and four others were wounded in fierce fighting with Hezbollah fighters Monday morning in the south Lebanese village of Bint Jbail.

Later Monday, the IDF warned residents of south Lebanon to remain indoors after 10 P.M. (1900 GMT) and said anyone moving after that would be at risk, a military source said.

Meanwhile, IDF commandos launched a raid near Lebanon’s Mediterranean coast Monday, fighting Hezbollah in close combat in a bid to destroy its rocket launchers.About 30 commandos landed by helicopter on a southern hilltop south of Tyre, overlooking Ras al-Biyada, a Lebanese security officials said. They were mired in fierce fighting with Hezbollah, and there was no word on casualties, an official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.The town about five kilometers north of the Israel-Lebanon border overlooks Tyre on the Mediterranean. Commandos landed north of the area and raided an apartment. At least five Lebanese – including a soldier at a nearby checkpoint – were killed in the raid, officials said. The IDF reported eight soldiers wounded, two seriously.

IDF shoots down Hezbollah drone over sea near Haifa coast

IDF brought down an unmanned drone over the Mediterranean Sea on Monday night, near the coast of the northern city of Haifa. It is not clear whether it had explosives onboard.In the past year, Hezbollah has twice managed to fly a drone into Israeli airspace, both of which returned safely to Lebanese territory.“I can confirm that the airforce destroyed a Hezbollah drone,” an army spokesman said, but would not provide any other details, including where the drone was flying.

Over 90 Hizbollah rockets hit targets across northern Israel

Hezbollah gunners renewed their rocket fire at northern Israel on Monday morning, firing over 90 rockets that hit targets across the north, wounding three people.Over 50 rockets landed in the Kiryat Shmona area.Eight rockets slammed into the Nahariya area. One of the rockets landed in the yard of a house, and the shrapnel lightly injured one of the residents.
