Israel at War 17 July

Homocide bombing thwarted in Jerusalem

The male suspect, a West Bank resident, was stopped by police on the city’s Jaffa Road near the Jaffa Gate for a routine security check during the late-morning incident.

The man was arrested on the scene, after the estimated five kilograms of explosives were found in his bag.

Troops briefly enter southern Lebanon

A government spokesman said Monday afternoon that IDF ground forces had briefly entered southern Lebanon to target Hizbullah bases along the border in order to push the terrorist group out of rocket-firing range.

Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz declared that the IDF currently had much better alternatives than to launch a major ground incursion into Lebanon.

Additionally the IDF has denied Lebanese news reports that an Israeli F-16 jet or any other aircraft was downed near Beirut. Virtually all Lebanese news agencies were showing unclear video footage of what was claimed to be the downed jet.

Israeli Soldier killed in West Bank Town of Nablus

An IDF soldier was killed and five soldiers were wounded in Nablus overnight Sunday after a bomb was thrown at their patrol. Some of the soldiers were wounded after they came under heavy gunfire while pulling out of the battle zone.

Some body parts of the dead soldier were left behind, Palestinian witnesses said. Hundreds of Palestinians later gathered at the scene to view parts of the soldier’s leg, and many of them reacted with celebratory chants, the witnesses said.

Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades gunmen, who claimed responsibility for the deadly explosion, later said they had collected the body parts and would hand them over to an Israeli-Palestinian liaison office to return them to Israel.

Al Jazeera bureau chief detained

Israel police on Monday detained the Jerusalem bureau chief of the Arab satellite station Al-Jazeera, for the second time in as many days, the journalist said.

Walid Al Omari was first taken into custody on Sunday along with the Israel crew of the Qatar-based satellite Arab TV station for a real-time broadcast of a Hizbullah Katyusha attack on Haifa, which disclosed the area of the rocket attack, in violation of Israeli military censorship guidelines.

Iranian-made Zelzal rocket hit as IAF targets weapons truck

The IDF rejected a Lebanese report on Monday that an IAF fighter jet had been shot down, and said that the army had destroyed an Iranian-made long-range Zelzal missile, which fired into the air and fell back down.

The Zelzal missileis believed to have a range of over 200 kilometers and could, officials said, reach Tel Aviv.

The officials said Israeli aircraft targeted a truck carrying the weapons before they could be launched. The force of the blast sent at least one missile flying into the air, but it fell nearby. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity under military regulations.

IDF continuing Gaza Strip operations

Deputy Chief of General Staff Maj.-Gen. Moshe Kaplinski said on Monday evening that the IDF was continuing its operations in the area of Beit Hanun in the Gaza Strip, an area notorious for allowing terrorists freedom of movement.

He confirmed, at a daily briefing on the IDF’s activities, that Golani troops had killed eight Palestinian operatives

“Kassam rockets have continued to rain down on Israel but the capabilities of the terror organizations have been diminished,” Kaplinski said.

On Lebanon, the deputy chief of staff said that the IDF would continue to operate “from the air, sea and land” in its operations to weaken Hizbullah – “a violent and aggressive movement.”

Renewed barrages of rockets rain down on northern Israel

Renewed barrages of Katyusha rockets fired from Lebanon rained down on northern Israel on Monday night.

A house near Kiryat Shmona, suffered a direct hit from a rocket, while a public building in Safed was also struck, wounding five people.

During the barrage, rockets also hit the Ma’alot area, Rosh Pina, Nahariya, Meron, Afula, Rosh Hanikra, Haifa, Acre, Karmiel, Metulla, and Tzivon, as well as Shetulla, Kfar Yuval, Goshrim, Kfar Szold, Peki’in and Merom Hagalil.

Israel Sets terms for Cease Fire…

Diplomatic efforts to end Israeli-Hezbollah fighting gained traction Monday, with Israeli officials saying they would agree to halt fighting if their two captured soldiers were returned and Islamic guerrillas withdrew from the border.

My Comments

As much as we all want peace, a ceasefire with these terms in reality solves nothing. At best it postpones the issues to be dealt with sometime in the future..  A future in which terrorists like Hizbullah, Hamas, and others will likely hold a stronger position throughout the region. Hizbullah must be disarmed & disbanded, its leaders must be apprehended and jailed for the crimes they have committed, and the funding, training, arming and support that they and other terror groups get from Syria, Iran and elsewhere must be severed. Anything less is nothing more than a delaying action which could easily plays to the advantage of the terrorists.

Truly you refuse to see other things. Your eyes show you nothing of the truth. If you think the war of israel is agaisnt hizbollah, you are wrong. what do u call killing of 300 persons (among them tens of children under 10 and grouped in families) what do you call this?is it normal that among 300 only 15 were military or para military?

If you count on statistics only – you will find that israel was the terrorist and not hizbolah : lebanon casualties ( 300 civilians among them 20 military) and israeli casualties (25 among them 15 military).

Be human before beign pro isareli and be courageous to condems your dream of force tsahal.

Blaming hizbollah for the killing of civlian by the IAF ( the great achievment of israel) for they hide among people is giving right to hitler for destroying a city for it sheltered a resitant. it is giving right to Hamas to bomb a bus for it carries one soldier. it is completely same logic.

Existence of israel as jewish state ( your defense on this) is not more important than the respect of human rghts and international law.

I will not tell you about the international law allowing any human to help palestinian get rid of the occupation; this also is a true law.

  2. Sami:

Honestly look at who is fighting… If Hizbollah truly wanted peace they need to simply put down their weapons, and return those they have kidnapped… If the Israelis on the other hand were to disarm… Jews would be the victims of another Holocost.

    Have a nice day.

the very road map to peace is replete with booby traps set by the islamists. If you define peace as the existence of two seprate states, palestine and Israel living side by side, then moslems WILL NEVER WANT that. A thorough look all over the globe shows moslems not only want the total annihialation of Jewish neighbours but of all neighbous everywhere. They are fighting, east Timorese, nothern Indian Hindus, Southern christian Sudanese, northern Nigerian Christians etc. Except this blood-letting Jihad concept is abandoned by Arabs, world peace will remain an illusion. so what must Israel do in the circumstance? CONSTANT ENGAGEMENT, cede no more lands (afteral all the lands from mediterenian to river euphrates belonged to King David), keep diplomatic doors open forever, forget about ‘PEACE AT LAST’, The reason I have stated already a permanent peace cannot be secured from people [the Arabs] who are ambivalent about peace.

    Darel
For you the two soldiers have big values – More values than all those victims ( 1300 at the end of the war of whom at least 1000 were civilians and 400 kids besides thousands of heavy wounded persons and handicaps). This means two jewish soldiers value more than thoudsands of civilians.
For the right to make a war in order to release 2 sodleirs prisoners – this means palestinians who have 10,000 prisoners ( ( most of them civilians and some fighters ) those palestinians have the right to kill 1300 * 5000 israeli – is this a right ? followingyour same logic.

Darel , be less supporter and recognize that israel is a terrorist state.

Israel kill because they scare from arabs and muslism ? How did jews survived 1400 years of arab and islamic ruling? How do you scare holocaust from arab and muslims where all the hebrew culture and hebrew grammer were made in the woumb of their culture
