UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) -North Korea’s U.N. ambassador said any further U.S. pressure on Pyongyang will be a “declaration of war” and that his country “totally rejects” U.N. Security Council sanctions imposed on Saturday.
“If the United States increases pressure on the Democratic People’s Republic of (North) Korea, the DPRK will continue to take physical countermeasures, considering it as a declaration of war,” Pak Gil Yon told the Security Council.
He accused the council — which imposed harsh financial and arms sanctions on North Korea to punish Pyongyang for its underground nuclear test on Monday — of “double standards.”

The resolution demands North Korea eliminate all its nuclear weapons but expressly rules out military action against the country, a demand by the Russians and Chinese. U.S. Ambassador John Bolton warned Pyongyang, however, that if it continues pursuing nuclear weapons, the United States would seek further measures.
The Security Council condemned the nuclear test that North Korea said it conducted on Oct 9. It demanded that North Korea immediately return to six-party talks aimed at persuading Pyongyang to dismantle its weapons program without precondition.
I seem to recall some other UN Sanctions imposed on a Dictator that attempted to disuade the rogue regime from pursuing weapons of mass destruction… I also recall that very few members of the UN would actually take any action to enforce those sanctions… The UN can use all the harsh language it wants, unless it backs that language up with tangible action, that language is useless… Much like the UN itself.
Iran will be watching very closely the next few months to gauge the what the UN actually does, not its rhetoric but its action… If that action is not clear and decisive it will be seen by the Mad Mullah’s as the green light to continue in their own pursuit of Nuclear Weapons.
