Baby Huey seems to have a selective and faulty memory not to mention a view of history that is completely seperate from factual reality.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday that American support of Israel is responsible for flaming tensions in the Middle East.
Note that it was Hamas and then Hizbullah who raided Israel and kidnapped Israelis, and that Hamas and Hizbullah get their support from Syria and Iran… Not the US or Israel.
Israel launched its attack on Lebanon after Hizbullah carried out a brazen cross-border raid Wednesday, capturing two soldiers.
“The fundamental blame falls again on the US empire. It’s the empire that armed and supported the abuses of the Israeli elite, which has invaded, abused and defied the United Nations for a long time,” Chavez said.
Does he mean the UN resolution that required the Lebanese Military to occupy and control southern Lebanon, the same resolution that required the disarmament of Hizbullah?
The Venezuelan president said Israel was using excessive force — destroying critical civilian infrastructure and killing and injuring civilians.
Israel withdrew from Gaza last year, from southern Lebanon several years earlier, and you could likely count on one hand the number of consecutive days in which either Hamas, Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad, or a host of other terror groups did not launch terror attacks against Israeli Civillians. Yes Israel is destroying infrastructure that is used by civillians… that same infrastruycture is also used to supply and arm terrorists.
An ally of Cuba’s Fidel Castro, Chavez frequently lashes out at President Bush and US policy.
“The US empire’s desire to dominate has no limits and that could take this world to a real Holocaust,” Chavez said.
Ever notice that whenever there is any kind of international dispute, be it North Korea, Iran, or Israel, Chavez somehow has to get involved? He is slated to go to North Korea later this month, likely to try and trade Oil for weapons or weapons technology, he recently made a trip to Tehran as well, and agreed on a joint venture to develop a refinery for Iranian oil in Venezuela.

while i respect your opinion, i think it is a blatant understatement to say that Israel is merely destroying infrastructure used by civilians. Last time I checked CNN (early afternoon here in the Philippines), 63 lebanese civilians are already dead, compared to 3 or 4 Israelis. I am sure that the death toll is now higher, given that they’re bombing sites where civilians are obviously located (like tv and radio stations, for instance).
i don’t suggest that hezbollah or hamas should get off easy. but i do think that israel is acting disproportionately. not only that, i think this war is partly their doing. yes they’ve withdrawn from gaza, but not from the west bank. they have not followed the green line agreement with the United Nations, the borders that Israel are supposed to follow. So yes, Lebanon might be ignoring a UN resolution, but Israel is too. And it’s mighty self-serving of them to pick and choose which they’ll keep and which they won’t.
bottom line is i think this is a tragedy, with no benefit either for Israelis or Lebanese people. By reacting so strongly, Israel might even be strengthening support for Hezbollah. Which is something nobody except the terrorists want.

Estelle:
When you unleash the fury, how do you reign it in?
Why did Lebanon bring Hezbollah into it’s folds and make them a gov’t sanctioned organization, instead of the terrorists they clearly are?
Why is it when Israel acts disproportionately, your ilk comes out of the woodwork, but doesn’t keep the context that 5 Israeli soldiers were killed and 2 more have been kidnapped.
If you eradicate the organization, there won’t be anything left to support. Additionally, as the Government of Lebanon is now finding out, if you legitimatize a group that bases its existence on terror, you’ll meet the same fate as the terrorists.
I wish innocents weren’t being killed anywhere in the world. However, what the hell made Lebanon recognize those terrorist bastards? They brought this upon themselves and their populace.
And again, Israel was dealing with Hamas – why did they get involved?
