MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) — Russia’s most wanted man, Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, has been killed by the country’s special forces, the state security chief has told President Vladimir Putin.

FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev said on Monday that Basayev, who claimed responsibility for the 2004 Beslan school attack in which 331 people, half of them children, were killed, was planning an attack to coincide with Russia hosting the G8 summit of world leaders this weekend.

CNN’s Matthew Chance said the killing was a massive victory for the security services and a huge blow for the rebel leadership.

Basayev, together with other Chechen fighters, was killed in Ingushetia, a region neighboring Chechnya, where rebels are battling for independence.

The only terrorists involved are Russia. They are fully responsible for their former Soviet Unions actions. When a governments leaders take actions, they put the entire furture generations at risk. Having almost invented terrorism with the Katyn Massacre, the execution of the Warsaw Uprising heros, and 40 years of imposing their will on numerous countries. The people are coming back at them, its just the beginning.

  2. Jozef; Thank you for your comment, While I agree with you that the former Soviet Union is the grandfather of terrorism, anyone who orchestrated the Beslan school massacre is a terrorist. This may be an incident one terrorist killed by other terrorists. The end result is that at least one terrorist is dead… this is a good thing.
