Bribes, Lies and Video Tape

The 8 Term Democrat from Louisiana, and prominent member of the Budget and Ways and Means committees, finds himself the subject of an FBI investigation for taking bribes. William Jefferson has demonstrated that the Culture of Corruption is bipartisan and not limited to Republicans as the Democratic leadership and the liberal media a few short weeks ago would have you believe. Will the Leadership be calling for Jefferson to Resign as they did for Tom Delay? and will Jefferson himself accept responsibility for his actions and accept the consequences like Duke Cunningham did? Somehow I doubt it. My guess is that Jefferson and the Democratic Leadership will attempt to protray him as the "victim" in this, perhaps employing the Race Card to achieve that objective. Jefferson's attourny claimed that the prosecution release of the tape was a public relations effort to embarass the congressman.. Jefferson has done plenty to do  that all on his own. See the Flash Back below. 

A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer.

At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson D-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.  Full story Here.
